My husband, Zachariah Sims who served in
Co. F. 24th Mo. Inf. Vol in the late war was not
engaged in the military or naval service of
the United States at any time from
Sept. 14th 1862 the date of his discharge from the
above named Company & Regt. to the time
of his death.

I am the widow of Zacharias Sims, was married to him before
he entered the service in the U. S. army and I know, that
he did not serve in the U. S. army or navy since his
discharge on September 4th 1862, that he started home
from that date and was not able to work much
and that he was sick more or less till his death in 1866
in which year he died

On this 21st day of March A. D. 1891; personally appeared before me a Notary Public in and fore the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths, William S. Woolridge, aged 54 years, a resident of [blank] in the County of Texas, and State of Missouri, who being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:
I have been well and personally acquainted with Polly
Sims for 20 years, have lived during all this time
in about 3 miles of her. I know, that she has no
property other than one mare, and is living with
her son, who keeps her, for the work she is doing.
The son also get the increase of the mare. To
my knowledge she never remarried since
she move here. I know that she reared her
family of little children, and supported them
by her daily labor.

Polly Sims for 8 years and have lived during
all this time in about one mile from her. I know
that she does not own any Real Estate, that she
owns only one mare, that she has no income
other, than her daily labor and is supported mostly
by her son, with whom she lives. I further more
state, that the increase of the above mentioned
mare goes to her son for her support. Since
I got acquainted with her, she never remarried
and is known in the neighborhood as the widow
Sims.

On this 5th day of February A. D. 1891, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths Polly Sims aged 55 years, a resident of [blank] in the County of Douglas and State of Missouri whose Post Office address is Mountain Grove Mo. well known to me to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn declare[s] in relation to the aforesaid case as follows:
I respectfully ask
that my claim which has been rejected shall
be reinstated and give the following reasons.
My claim was rejected on account of evidence
having been given by some one that my husband
was affected with epilepsy or fits prior to the
date of his enlistment. I am now confident
that I can furnish proof sufficient to show
that my husband was not affected with
epilepsy or fits prior to his enlistment and I
ask that my claim be reinstated and I be given
an opportunity to furnish this evidence.
I cannot now state the Co. and Reg. in which
my husband served but the number of my
claim is 148904.

Zachariah Sims of Captain S. P. Barris Company, (F), of the twenty fourth Regiment of United States, was enlisted by Capt. S P Barris, of the 24th Regiment of Mo Vols at Rolla Mo on the 20th day of August 1861, to serve 3 years; he was born in Morgan Co. in the State of Indiana, is 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, Fair complexion, Blue eyes, Black hair, and by occupation when enlisted a Blacksmith. During the last two months said soldier as been unfit for duty.
Subject to severe cramping which renders
him entirely unfit for duty

WIDOW'S APPLICATION FOR PENSION.

This Pension Application must be executed before a Judge or Clerk of a Court of Record, and if before the Judge, the Clerk thereof will certify said Judge's official capacity and signature, and attest the same under the seal of the Court.
A Justice of the Peace must not authenticate this paper. If he does, the work is utterly useless, and must be all done over again before a Judge or Clerk of a Court of Record, as above stated.
On this 27 day of May 1867, personally appeared before me, a Clerk of a Court of Record in and for the County and State aforesaid, Polly Sims a resident of Clay Township in the County of Greene and State of Missouri aged 31 years, who, being duly sworn, makes the following declaration, in order to obtain the Pension provided by the Act of Congress approved July 14, 1862: That she is the widow of Zachariak Sims who was a Sergt in Company "F" commanded by Captain Barris in the 24th Regiment of Mo Inft Vols in the war of 1861; that her maiden name was Polly Milburn and that she was married to said Zachariah Sims on or about the 22 day of December 1854, at Lunnback [? or Lurnback?] in the County of Lawrence and State of Missouri by Burrow Buckner and that she herewith files a cirtified copy of the marriage.
SHE FURTHER DECLARES that said Zachariah Sims her husband, died of disease contracted whilst a member of Said Co in Bourbon Country in the State of Kansas on or about the 9th day of September 1866 of Cronic Diareah a disease he contracted whilst a member of the Said Co. She also declares that she [the rest of this line did not print] said Zacharah Sims and that she has not in any manner been engaged in, or aided or abetted, the rebellion in the United States; and she hereby appoints SANBORN & KING, of Washington, D. C., as her lawful Attorneys, with power of substitution, and authorizes them to present and prosecute this claim and to receive her pension certificates. The following is the names dates of birth and place of residence of all the children of her deceased husband who were under sixteen years of age at the time of his death:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of application for Pension No. 149-904, and to return it herewith, with such information as is furnished by the files of this Office.
It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that Zachariah Sims was enrolled on the 20 day of Aug, 1861, at Rolla in Co. F, 24 Regiment of Missouri Volunteers, to serve 2 years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a Private on the 14 day of Oct 1861, at St. Louis, in Co. F, 24 Regiment of Missouri Volunteers, to serve 3 years or during the war. On the Muster Roll of Co. F of that Regiment, Dated Oct 15, 1864, he is reported Discharged Sept 4, 1862 on Surgeons Certificate of disability No evidence of death on file.
