organization at Lynnville, Tenn., May 16, 1861,
to its re-organization at Jackson, Miss., Sept. 26,
1862.

x     *This company was successively designated Company I,
Company D and Company I, 3d (Clack's) Regiment Tennessee
Infantry.
 
     The 3d (Clack's) Regiment Tennessee Infantry was organized in
May, 1861, and transferred to the service of the Confederate
States August 7, 1861.  It was captured at Ft. Donelson, Tenn.,
February 16, 1862, released at Vicksburg, Miss., September 23, 1862,
re-organized September 26, 1862, and declared exchanged at
Aiken's Landing, Va., November 10, 1862.  Some of the men not
captured at Fort Donelson are found to have served in the 35th
Regiment Tennessee Infantry until after the 3d (Clack's) Regiment
Tennessee Infantry was exchanged.
     About April 9, 1865, the 2d, 3d, 10th, 15th, 18th, 20th, 26th, 30th,
32d, 37th and 45th Regiments and the 23d Battalion Tennessee In-
fantry were consolidated and formed the 4th Consolidated Regi-
ment Tennessee Infantry, which was paroled at Greensboro, N. C.,
May 1, 1865.
