ID: I1742
Name: Henry Holaday , Jr.
Sex: M
Birth: ABT 1762 in Orange Co., NC 1
Death: AFT 1830 in TN
Reference Number: 1744
Note: There is no “Written documentation” to prove Henry's children. With the exception of Henry Jr.’s son “Henry” who was named in Henry Sr.’s will in 1800, the other seven are only known by circumstantial evidence gathered by family and other researchers over the past two decades. Most of these conclusions were reached as follows:
Starting in 1800 NC-Orange County, Henry Jr. had one son 16-26, one daughter 10-16, three sons under 10, and two daughters under 10. All 7 of these were born in NC - Orange. The 1820 TN - Williamson Census lists Henry Jr. with one son 10-16. He had to be born in Tennessee. Henry Jr. sold the land he inherited in 1800 by 1803, and purchased land in TN - Williamson in 1804. There was no Census in TN in 1810, and by 1830 Henry had moved to TN - Henry County. Henry's oldest son was most likely Peter, b. abt 1784/5. He was named for Henry Jr.’s wife, Sarah Quackenbush’s father, Peter. Rachel was next, b. bet 1785 and 1790. Rachel married Martin Trantham in TN - Williamson in 1812. Martin was the father of several of Rachel's siblings that married Tranthams.
Thomas was the most likely third child. He was born abt 1791, and married Margaret Bitticks. Next was Sally, b. abt 1796. She married Jesse Trantham in 1818. Next was Henry (3), b. abt 1797. Henry (3) married Elizabeth Trantham in 1815. Next was John Christmas Holladay, b abt 1798 m. Sally Trantham. The youngest son was probably William, and one daughter is unknown, most likely b. bet 1792 and 1795.
These children of Henry Holladay, Jr. were determined through marriage records, tax records, census records, and the process of elimination as children of other Hollidays in Tennessee and North Carolina during the period. This is the best information available as of the end of this year, 1997.
