Notes for Green Bittick

There is confusion concerning the spelling of Green's first name. When his daughter, Ella, filled out her DAR Application thru the Garrard Line, she spelled his name, Greene. But, most records list it as Green.

Additional information is found in the Civil War Veterans Questionnaire of his son, John Holland Bittick. John states,
"Father farmed, raised stock and traded considerable in same especially buying miles [mules?] and driving south."
He also gives a description of their home,
"Four room double log home, two rooms above and two below. Logs nicely hewn. There was a ten foot open hall between rooms."

Census Enumerations:

Enumeration date, 1 June 1840 or later
Middle District, Giles Co, Tennessee, p105a:
G.B. Biddex - 1111/0001
1m -5 c1835-40 = William c1840 or John c1838
1m 5-10 c1830-35 = John H. c1838? or who?
1m 10-15 c1825-30 = this could be an duplicate entry
1m 15-20 c1820-25 = G.B. 'Green' c1818
1f 15-20 c1820-25 = Sarah 'Sally' c1824
[The 1840 census enumerations are confusing at times because of the overlapping age questions. On ancestry.com the '1' mark under male child 10-15 appears to be very light - almost a smudge - possibly erased by the enumerator. But, on the copy from genealogy.com the '1' mark is very clear for a male child 10-15. Also, this is the only record where Green Biddex/Bittick is listed with a middle initial of 'B'.]
