Holman , John O’Steen, “Fisherman” Wilson, Willis Pruet, John Odam, Mike Wilkins, Dr. A.G. Dickson, and others that cannot now be called to mind. These men were here early in the eighties and either witnesses the birth of the town or nurtured it in its infancy. Perhaps a brief reference to these deceased pioneers of the city might be interesting to the new generation that has come upon the stage of action as well as to those who were contemporaneous with them, as each did his part in laying the foundation of the future city, destined by the fates to be the queen city of Crowley’s Ridge, as it is often been called.

FRANK BITTICK and Bill Ware were among the first men to conduct a mill business in Paragould. Bittick died in 1885 after having completed a nice residence for himself and family it being the place now occupied by Jake Lambert and family in East Paragould. Several additions have been build to the home since Mr. Lambert bought it but at the time it was build it was on of the best residences in the city. Mr. Ware was a brother to our townsman Tol Ware and the two brothers came here together from Tennessee before the streets of Paragould were opened.
