'The info on the Bitticks is tied in with the Caruthers/Fairchilds, so I am looking. The first thing I find is the children of Alexander B. and Lucinda (Bittick) Caruthers:
1. Sarah b?.
2. Melissa Jane (my ancestor) b1833.
3. Elizabeth J. b1834.
4. Francis Marion (the 1st son, named after Lucinda's father?) b1836.
5. John Ewing (the 2nd son, named after A.B.'s father, John C) b1841.
6. Rebecca b1844.
7. Elba Jane b1847.
8. Alexander Benjamin (the 3rd son, named after his father) b1850.
9. Polly b1855.
10. Sam b1857.
11. Almira b1859.
All born in Clark Co, AR.

"I found a reference from my great-aunt Othella Pumphrey. She listed Francis as Lucinda's father. I began this search when I was in college in 1980, I did not keep good source records when I started. I probably took what Aunt Othella said as gospel since she had been at it longer than me. But the fact that they seemed to follow the traditional naming pattern led me to believe that Francis was Lucinda's father. We can surmise from what we have that:
a) Samuel and Nancy were Lucinda's parents
OR
b) the Nancy in A.B. and Lucinda's household was an aunt. It is possible that Nancy was Lucinda's aunt and both Lucinda's parents died close together and Nancy took her in, that is, IF Lucinda is the young girl on the 1830 census."
