Betty Bittick Neal says according to family tradition, Hill was young, maybe age 17, hurt on a horse, in California. The doctor in the family, Dr. George M. Summers, his uncle, amputated Hill's leg but it was too late because gangrene and Hill died. Hill was well thought of in the family and his name was passed on to other descendants.
