John Bitticks (Biddix) Soldier in the Revolution: The couple was married in December 1780, in Orange County (near Hillsboro), "under the old English rule of publication being made at the parish church door, and her husband... did not procure a license from any authority, and for the reason that it was not the custom at that day and time, in that county or settlement." [see Other Documents-John Bittick/Biddix Revolutionary War Pension Claim]

From "Toe River Valley Heritage, Vol. 1, Page 86, No. 78:
John Bitticks (Biddix) Soldier in the Revolution:

John Bitticks (Biddix) was a soldier in the War of Independence. His pension application (R0874 in the National Archives) contains the following information. [see Other Documents-John Bittick/Biddix Revolutionary War Pension Claim]

Widow Hannah Bittick, aged 96, a resident of Grassy Creek (present Mitchell County, then Yancey), appeared before David Byrd, J. P., on May 25, 1850. Her husband served in the Dragoon Corps of the Continental Army in the Company of Captain Greenwood. He entered the service as a volunteer, near the middle of April, 1778, and served two tours of duty, enrolling at Hillsborough, in Orange County, North Carolina. He was in the Battle of Hillsborough and in several small skirmishes nearby. He was marched to Guilford County, but Hannah does not remember if he fought at Guilford Court House.

In support of her claim, she submitted a little family-record booklet "in the hand writing of my husband John Bitticks."

John was born ca. 1748 and died in Yancey (now Mitchell) County in 1836.
[Editor note: the widow stated, in the pension file, that her husband died on January 9, 1837]

Yancey County, North Carolina Court Session dated June 1836:
John Bailey was appointed Administrator of all and singularly the effects of JOHN BIDIX deceased. He qualified and gave bond in the amount of sixty dollars.

Orange Co, North Carolina Tax List
1779 - John Bittocks

This is probably John Bittick/Biddix and Hannah since they were in Orange Co, NC at one time. All we can really tell from this is he was at least 16 and probably 21+ in 1779 which would make him born between before 1758-1763. The list doesn't give any details and is a substitute for the 1790 census which is missing.
