Notes for Elijah Marion Hall

Burial: Lakeside Cemetery, Canon City, Fremont Co, Colorado
******
In 1883 Merriman and his brother, Dave, boarded a train and moved to Colorado and began farming together. In 1888, while Dave was working in the field, Merriman slipped off, unknown to anyone and married Fannie Lancaster, 17. They were married by old man McGowan, who was Justice of the Peace at Glendale. Merriman took his new bride home and she had a good supper ready for them when Dave came in from the field. He was surprised, of course to see her there and he asked Merriman (aside), "When are you going to take that kid home?" When they told him they were married, he could hardly believe it, but soon accepted the situation.
In 1901 Merriman Hall became Postmaster of Glendale, Co, using the front room of his house as the Post office. He served for many years in that capacity. Merriman bought the Harry Tremayne place north of there in 1903, they moved the Post office up there with them where they lived until until bought the Fourmile property around 1906.
