Notes for David Fleming Hall

Burial: Lakeside Cemetery, Canon City, Fremont Co, Colorado

Being a large, well-developed young man, Dave began guarding prisoners on the road gang for which he received $11.00 a month also with board. In 1883 Dave & his brother, Merriman boarded a train and moved to Colorado and began farming together. After Merriman married Fannie in 1888, Dave went to North Carolina to spend Christmas. He was not long in finding the girl he wanted to marry, Minnie May Barnes, his own cousin. About 1895, Dave Hall bought the property on Red Creek and homesteaded land, joining his brother, Merriman, property at Fourmile. After proving up on the homestead, he bought a bigger, better place on Upper Beaver, selling the one one on Red Creek. The new place he had a flourishing orchard.

In 1930, when Dave was 70 years old, he realized he was nearing the end of his long and colorful life. He made his will and planned the distribution of his wealth and real estate. Nora was gone and only Fred and Ethel remained of his children, so he divided the bulk of his real estate between them giving each one a deed for their share. The rest together with his money, bonds and other investments went to his wife, Minnie, as a life estate, to be equally divided at his death to the grand-children. Ethel was named as administrator. His health failed rapidly after that and he suffered terribly with prostate gland trouble. The local doctor treated him for several years, then sent him to a specialist in Pueblo, Colorado, who put him in St. Mary's Hospital there for an operation. Fred went with him and never left him as long as he lived. But Dave was a "bleeder" and hemorrhaged on the operating table. Fred gave four blood transfusions in an effort to save him in vain. Dave died on April 15, 1935, at the of 75 years.

Buried in Lakeside Cemetery, Canon City, Fremont Co, Colorado. Section 00N, Block 012, Lot 002. D. F. Hall, July 1, 1860 - Apr. 30, 1935.
