Notes for William Waller

Son of Joseph Waller and Magdalena Dauer

1900 Canadian Township, Mississippi Co, Arkansas, 11 May 1910, ed83, p36a:
#84/87 Waller William head m w 54 widow Wi Ger Ger

William Waller was murdered. According to his grandson, James Wendell Nave, Grandpa William had a little store on a shanty boat on the Mississippi River, near Tomato, Arkansas. One evening someone came aboard and murdered him and threw his body into the muddy Mississippi river. Later, his body washed up against the pilings of a new bridge being built. John Nave and Edgar Tillman, his two sons-in-law, traveled down there to see if they could discover who had murdered him. To this day it remains a mystery.

William's great-granddaughter, Nedra, says he was part of the Oklahoma Land Rush. He didn't get a stake but bought one from someone who did. Nedra also says that William would send his son, John, and daughter, Annie, down to the local saloon with buckets to get beer to drink with their supper.

Buried: Memphis, Tennessee
