Newspaper Items from the Buffalo Reflex - 1889, published in Ozar'kin, Summer 1992 by Leni Howe:

“Seeing in one of your recent issues a communication from Mr. Scrivener as one of the old settlers of Dallay [Dallas] County wishing to hear from more of them. I will say of myself that I was born in Jefferson Co MO 5 Oct 1830 and came to what is now Dallas county when 7 years of age and have lived here ever since, or 52 yrs. I have been a member of the church 25 yrs. In the fall of ‘86 I visited my son in Taney county and was there six weeks but with that exception I have not been out of the county longer than 2 days at a time in 52 yrs. I first belonged to the Methodist Church, afterward joining Missionary Baptist as I could not reconcile myself to the practice of sprinkling children. I have been twice married & twice widowed. I have been suffering the past year with consumption & find my relatives and kind friends always ready to assist me. My life has been spent in household duties and trying to raise my family to be respectable God fearing citizens and now as I am nearing my 60th year I see them all members of the Church but 1 daughter and stepson. Hannah McLeod”

Tilden - Mrs. Hannah McLeod died after a long illness on the 7th and was laid to rest in the Will Scrivener [sic] graveyard. Age 62 years. Hope someone will write the obit of this everyday Christian.
[Leni Howe, no obit found. I have seen her tombstone in the cemetery and it has the right month and day but has 1892 for the year. No doubt the stone wasn't put up immediately.]
