Notes for John R. Bittick

John R. Bittick was born October 7, 1813, probably in the St. Louis County, Missouri area [see Heirlooms-John R. & Cyntha Bittick Bible]. By 1838 he was in Gasconade County, Missouri and was administrator for his father's estate. He married Cyntha Wallace January 10, 1839, and, except for one trip to Texas, they seem to have remained in the Gasconade-Osage-Maries counties area until after 1860. According to a letter written in 1858 by his brother, Henry W., John R. and Cyntha made at least one trip to Texas. [see Heirlooms-1858 Henry W. Bittick Letter]. In 1853, they removed to Texas, but they didn't stay long and were soon back in Maries County. [per information not presented in this web site and land records]. By the 1870 census, John R. and family were in Dallas County, Missouri. They are not in Dallas county long before moving to eastern Douglas County, Missouri. John R.'s oldest son, Thomas H., was in Douglas County by the 1870 census, and John R. followed before 1876. John R. homesteaded 162 acres along the North Fork River near Topaz in eastern Douglas County, where he and Cyntha lived until their deaths in the early 1900s. They are buried nearby in the Bittick Cemetery.

Census: 1840, where are John R. & Cyntha? they don't seem to be with John R.'s mother, Prudence; not found in Gasconade or Franklin Counties, Missouri; according to their Bible, they were in Gasconade Co when son Thomas H. was born
