ANOTHER GOOD MAN GONE TO REST William Smith, late of Cedar Township, Boone County, the subject of this notice was one of our oldest and best citizens. He was born April 24, 1797, in Kentucky; married the daughter of Peter Ellis, in Boone County, in Oct 1818. He came to Missouri in 1816, where he has lived ever since at peace with all men. He joined the Methodist Church in 1821 and was one of the leading members of the church. He had the confidence of all denomitaions as a steadfast Christian, and as having a spotless records as a true gentleman. His fellow citizens and neighbors always resposed in him entire confidence, satisfied that he would do right though the heavens should fall. He was an affectionate husband, a tender father, a faithful friend and an exemplary Christian. In his death, which occured May 23, 1872, his church, which he dearly loved, lost a friend indeed; while the community in which he lived for 54 years and his large circle of friends will ever remember as a great specimen of a man, revealling at home and abroad and in all the relations of life the noblest instincts of a gentleman and the beautiful of the Christian. He leaves a large family (all made well to do by his perseverance and industry,) to mourn his loss as well as the large circle of friends and relations. Blessed be the good man's memory; let it grow greener with years. E. from the Weekly Missouri Statesmen, June 7, 1872, pg .
