My 4th great grandparents, James and Sarah McCourtney, came to St. Louis County, Missouri from Shelby County, Kentucky at least by 1803 (probably 1700). James died about 1807 and Sarah had to battle for years to get approval of the "Spanish" land grant. One of those who testified was Alexander McCourtney, apparently a brother. Alexander was the son of John and Hannah McCourtney. Other children of John and Hannah include John who married Phoebe MARTIN, Jeanie who married Ambrose BOLES and Susannah who married William MORRIS. Were there other children? What was Hannah's maiden name? Where were they prior to Shelby County, Kentucky? After James died, Sarah remarried a Mr. EMMONS. What was his first name? What was Sarah's maiden name?
