Dr. S.G. Bittick Dies Suddenly

Dr. S.G. Bittick, aged 70 years, died last night about 11:30 o'clock while being conveyed to the city hall. He was found lying on a couch on Fourteenth Street, between Main and Houston, by Officer Bradberry. Justice of the Peace Mahan viewed the remains at city hall, and although he did not arrive at a verdict, he said that Dr. Bittick probably came to his death as a result of heart failure.

For the past five years Dr. Bittick has owned a drug store at 900 East Front Street. He has been suffering with heart and kidney problems for several months and members of the family have carefully guarded him during that time, fearing that something would happen if allowed to get out of their sight, for he was physically unable to be trusted out alone. Last night however, Dr. Bittick left the store unobserved and came to town. While walking around the streets seeking exercise it is supposed that he had an attack and sought the couch in order to rest.

Officers Lane and Zakerson removed Dr. Bittick from the couch and assisted him to the station, riding with him in an ambulance, but they did not realize his condition until death had come. Dr. Bittick was absolutely helpless when first discovered and was unable to speak.

Surviving are two sons, one of whom, Dr. S.G. Bittick, Jr., is a veterinary surgeon in Fort Worth, and two daughters, all married. The body was taken charge by Undertaker L. P. Robertson and removed to Dr. Bittick's late residence.

Druggist Found Dying on Street
Dr. S.G. Bittick Dies on Way to Hospital

Dr. S.G. Bittick of 900 East Front Street was found in a dying condition on Fourteenth Street between Main and Houston, shortly before midnight Saturday by Police Officers Zackerson, Lane and Bradberry. He was taken to the emergency hospital at police headquarters, but was dead when they arrived there with him.

Justice Mahan, acting as corner, held an inquest over the remains. The verdict, while not given out at the time, will likely be that he come to his death from natural causes.

Dr. Biddick conducted a drug store on East Front Street, and had lived in that community for about five years. It is known that he was afflicted with heart trouble, and this is assigned as the cause of his death.

He was about 70 years of age and lived with his wife at the family home on East Front Street. It is unusual for him to be away from the house alone, and the supposition is that he walked up town, and feeling his trouble coming to him, stopped to rest on a cot, which was on the sidewalk, where he was picked up by the officers.

The body was sent to the undertaking rooms of L.P. Robertson, and afterwards to the residence.

Note : Alice, his wife, died on April 3, 1918. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee to J.M. Finley and Jane Yarbrough.
